The Group Management
Chris Stoppard, Group Manager
Chris Stoppard is responsible for the day-to-day management of St Thomas Medical Group and the strategic development of the organisation.
You can contact him about any query you may have about the health centres, and he will ensure that you receive a prompt response. Please also address suggestions for improvement to him – they will receive serious consideration.
Naomi Gruitt, Deputy Group Manager
Naomi Gruitt is also responsible for the day-to-day operational management of St Thomas Medical Group, including the management of the Student Health Centre on campus at Exeter University. Naomi manages practice recruitment and HR. She is head of compliments and complaints, holds an oversight role for our Electronic Health Record software and has overall management of the practice Triage systems.

Marilyn Mabe, Deputy Practice Manager
Marilyn Mabe is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of St Thomas Medical Group. Marilyn supports staff HR and responds to practice complaints as part of the complaints team. Marilyn manages the building maintenance for the group and supports the finance management team.
Nina Smith, Deputy Practice Manager
Nina is responsible for the day-to-day management of St Thomas Medical Group and is our Patient Participation Group co-ordinator. Nina supports Naomi with managing HR, responding to complaints and has oversight of the Student Health Centre and the Triage Admin Team. Nina is also the Data Protection Officer at St Thomas Medical Group and is responsible for maintaining data protection standards at the practice.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs)
Advanced Nurse Practitioners perform a similar and complimentary role to that of the GPs and are qualified to prescribe from a full range of medications. They will concentrate on the assessment and treatment of patients requiring same day access to the surgery and are experienced in consulting with patients of all ages.

Physiotherapists help restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. They can also help to reduce your risk of injury or illness in the future.
Additionally our physiotherapists are trained as First Contact Physiotherapists (FCPs). FCPs are able to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients independently (like a GP).
If needed, they have access to refer you for different diagnostic tests and some have specialist training to prescribe medications and, or administer steroid injections. (Read More)
Volunteer and Carer Coordinator
Denise Knowles co-ordinates the work of our volunteers (see League of Friends) who provide services to patients including prescription delivery, transport to the health centre and hospital, shopping support, community fund raising etc. Additionally she provides support and practical advice for carers of patients registered with our Practice.

Social prescribing link workers connect people to community-based support, including activities and services that meet practical, social, and emotional needs that affect their health and wellbeing. This includes connecting people to statutory services for example housing, financial and welfare advice.
Social prescribing works particularly well for people with low level mental health needs, who feel lonely or isolated, with long term conditions and complex social needs.

Health and Wellbeing Coaches

Health and wellbeing coaches support people to increase their ability to self-manage, motivation levels and commitment to change their lifestyle. They are experts in behaviour change and focus on improving health related outcomes by working with people to set personalised goals and change their behaviours. They work with people with physical and/or mental health conditions and those at risk of developing them.
